North West Locality (CEC) – Stockbridge Summer Solstice

Commissioned to the role of project manager we organised the EPOG (event planning and operational group) requirements which includes, emergency services, public safety plan, TTRO, security, licensing and environmental health. We produced the event manual, trained event volunteers, undertook the full event RA and fully managed the event on the day. We generated income from Smarter Choices Smarter Places funds, helped steer the entertainment programme and organised all street infrastructure.

Travel behaviour change strategy was not a priority for the client, the public experiencing a pedestrianised street without cars, whilst enjoying locally sourced entertainers on the longest day of the year was the requirement.  All businesses on the street participated in external stalls and activities. Our event survey told us that people really enjoyed the day with the main reason being the very sociable car-free street. We trained and employed young ambassadors to hand out cycle and walking leaflets and resource packs relevant to getting around the city for functional journeys and recreation.

The CEC client report is available on request from merielyoung@tiscali.co.uk.
