Research and monitoring – Bòrd na Gàidhlig (BnG)

Scrutiny of the delivery of Gaelic language plans (GLP’s) across five public bodies and local authorities. Working with David Hunter from Not for Profit planning this work involved checking that all the elements within individual GLPs were being delivered. Focus organisations included Historic Scotland, Skills Development Scotland, Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, East Dunbartonshire Council and Highland Council. The satisfaction of delivery elements was assessed through mystery shopping, undertaking visitor experiences assessing communications materials. The optimisation of GLP works were assessed against the extent that organisations were using their full resource potential to deliver the GLP’s. Typical research involved interviewing officers, assessing the extent of Gaelic usage across mainstream communications and branding, assessing promotion and access to bilingual resources, measuring Gaelic events outputs, Gaelic classes and internal Gaelic language training – as example areas.
